Why do some women get stretch marks & others don’t?
We all have that one friend, don’t we girls?
That friend whose hair is never out of place, whose barely there makeup is always just right and who doesn’t seem to know the meaning of the phrase – outfit malfunction.
These are also the friends who somehow manage to give birth and snap back into shape immediately without a hint of a mum tum or stretch marks.
Unfortunately, for many new Mums, life isn’t quite so effortless.
According to the very clever experts at Science of Skin, older Mums may be more prone to stretch marks because as you age your skin becomes less elastic. This means it is less likely to “ping back” (with apologies for the very unscientific word) to normal after being stretched, due to pregnancy or significant weight gain.
Anyone can get stretch marks and they are very common. According to the NHS website, about 8 out of 10 women get stretch marks during pregnancy.
The good news is that most stretch marks aren’t particularly noticeable and will fade over time.
The bad news is that for the unfortunate among us, some will develop unsightly stretch marks which affect a large area of their body.
While you can pretty much guarantee that your aforementioned perfect friend will suffer no such fate, for some people stretch marks can be a real challenge.
But fear not, the very clever experts from Science of Skin are here to help all us less than perfect, yet still fabulous, women
During pregnancy we would recommend using a product, such as our Stretch Mark Defence. It is used to help soothe and hydrate the skin during pregnancy – especially designed for areas at risk of stretch marks – such as abdomen (tummy), hips, breasts and thighs.
It is specially formulated to help soothe and super hydrate the areas of the skin at risk of stretch marks, helping to reduce the early signs of stretching such as dryness, tightness and irritable feeling skin.
Using a super-fine spray, Stretch Mark Defence is quickly absorbed through the skin. It works with gentle but effective natural ingredients to super hydrate and soothe the skin at risk of stretch marks.
If your stretch marks have already appeared and are feeling tight, irritable, red or itchy, then we’d suggest moving on to Solution for Scars.
It helps to reduce the appearance of stretch marks that are still symptomatic – red, sore and irritable. Our scientific formulation of highly moisturising active ingredients and Green Tea extracts soothes irritable skin and helps to reduce the appearance of redness of stretch marks that remain problematic or still cause discomfort.
Absorbed through the skin, it works with nature’s most powerful active ingredients to actively moisturise, soothe and reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
While we can’t really help you with your annoyingly, perfect friend, we are more than happy to help you with your stretch marks.
And, as for your perfect friend, my bet is that she probably feels just as imperfect as the majority of us most the time, so give her a hug and tell her you love her (just make sure you don’t mess up her perfect hair!)
